This is an icon of St Bede, the holy monk and scholar who left us a treasure of information concerning the early Saints of the British Isles. He is depicted here working in his monastic cell, writing his famous History of the English Church under the humble light of a candle. As he is writing, his attention is entirely given to the Voice and Truth of Christ, represented in the icon as a ray of light coming from Heaven.
