St Drostan - Icon of Confession
Showing all 3 results
St Drostan is the perfect image of a Spiritual Father. This icon of the Sacrament of Confession is the fourth commission of the saint we have received.
The repentant son has his eyes closed, as a sign of his spiritual blindness. St Drostan covers his head, giving him forgiveness of his sins, but the Saint’s hand is also covered by the most pure hand of Christ, because forgiveness comes from Christ alone, through one’s spiritual father.
As he prays over his son and hears his confession, St Drostan looks only at Christ, because his role is not to take over Christ’s place in his son’s life, but to make possible a personal relationship between Christ and his spiritual son.
This is why the only one looking straight at us in the icon is Christ Himself – nothing and no one replaces Him in our life, for salvation comes from Christ alone, as a personal gift of love to each of us.
May Christ, at the prayers of St Drostan, bless us beyond our most daring hopes!

The icon is a very high quality reproduction of an original Mull Monastery commission. It is mounted on durable, light wood, with round edges and a hanging hole.
