The Choir Stand is one of the most important pieces of furniture in a church, especially if the church is small. These are built in the traditional monastic fashion, so they are able to hold four sheets of music (or four service books) at the same time, which then the choir members can rotate. The Stand also has storage space inside it, which is again very helpful (it saves the space and the cost of an additional bookcase).
As with the icon stands, choir stands are built of hard wood, so they are very heavy and resistant. They should not be moved frequently.
Like all the other pieces of furniture we commissioned, this is entirely made of wood, hand-carved in Moldavia. We shall have to transport it to Scotland when it is finished.
We commissioned two of them – one for Kilninian, one for the Chapel.
