Description
St Columba – commissioned icon of the great Celtic Saint, founder of the Monastery on Iona. The commission represents St Columba working on an illuminated manuscript (his Monastery on Iona is where the amazing Book of Kells was created), while meditating on his past. St Columba was famously involved in a debate over the copyright of a Psalter he wrote, an event that led to the death several people. Therefore, this is also an icon of Repentance, the visual expression of an ageing man contemplating the sins of his youth.
