This is an icon of St Drostan, the perfect image of spiritual fatherhood. We used the image of the Ladder as a vision expression of the spiritual descent of Grace from Christ, through the spiritual father, to the repentant son (in this case, the blind priest Symeon, who found healing in the prayer of St Drostan). Confession is a ladder of Grace, flowing down from above unto the world, and raising the world to its full potential, healing the Divine Image in it. Christ sends His Grace down upon us, so He may raise us up to Him, so we may be One in Him.
Pay attention to the hands of Christ – one is placed on the shoulder of St Drostan, giving him strength and encouragement in taking upon himself the cross of the repentant son; the other hand is placed over the hand of St Drostan, as a sign that forgiveness, although given through the hands of the spiritual father, has its source in Christ’s love and sacrifice for us. Christ only can forgive, but He does so through the prayer of His priests.

The icon is a very high quality reproduction of an original Mull Monastery commission.
It is mounted on durable, light wood, with round edges and a hanging hole.
Our original commissions are unique, never repeated and made using local photographs of the actual geography of the Isles. Most of our colours are sourced from the Book of Kells (made on the Isle of Iona during the Celtic millennium) and we try to combine Byzantine and Egyptian iconography, as a recognition of the historical, cultural and spiritual connections between the Desert Fathers and the Celtic Saints.
Thank you for supporting the Monastery and the Christian heritage of the Celtic Isles.
Offer an icon to a friend, and introduce them too to these wonderful Saints.
